About ERIEC
The greater Edmonton area has been one of the fastest growing urban regions in Canada. In order to sustain any future growth, the greater Edmonton area will need additional persons with the knowledge and skills required to fill job demands. Statistics Canada predicted that the net growth in Canada's labour market will be 100% provided by immigrants by 2011. With an aging population, low fertility rates, and future demands from the economy, greater Edmonton cannot overcome the labour shortage without immigration.
The Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council was created to address an urgent need within the Edmonton area—addressing barriers to immigrant's meaningful labour market participation. Established in 2008, ERIEC is an industry led not for profit organization that is dedicated to ensure that immigrants are welcomed and participate in the economy at the level of their full potential.
