On August 16, 2023, in Edmonton, Alberta, ERIEC's Executive Director, Doug Piquette, played a significant role as a member of the Platform Party during an Enhanced Canadian Citizenship Ceremony. Doug had the honour of delivering congratulatory remarks to a group of 38 individuals who had just become proud new Canadian Citizens.
Since 2005, Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) programs have worked to give every newcomer to Canada the chance to become fully involved in Canadian history, culture, and politics.
Celebrating News Beginnings
ICC Enhanced Citizenship Ceremonies are a celebration of the newest members of the Canadian family and offer unique opportunities to reflect on what it means to be active, engaged citizens. ICC states, “Our Enhanced Citizenship Ceremonies reflect on what it means to be Canadian and the value of active citizenship and inclusion. Hosted across the country, [these ceremonies] celebrate the plethora of cultures and languages that constitute Canada.”
