Samra Siraj: A Mentee Story

The Career Mentorship Program (CMP) matches newcomer immigrant professionals (mentees) in the Edmonton region with established professionals and local business leaders/employers (mentors) who share a similar occupational background and create networks through real-life connections and experience.

Samra shares her experience:

“Moving to a new country is for sure exciting, but it comes with its own distinct sets of challenges.

I remember a few months ago, packing all my belongings into a few bags, leaving everything behind, and arriving in Canada with big dreams. I was brimming with excitement and hope, but at the same time, I felt apprehensive as I had no clue how I would navigate my career here.

I was lucky enough that one of my friends recommended ERIEC to me, and I enrolled in it. It was a smooth ride from there on. From providing advice to helping me revamp my resume and cover letter, identifying job portals, and preparing me for the interviews I began to have.

ERIEC has been significantly effective. I was lucky to have a super supportive mentor, Simran Kahlon, who was extremely approachable and guided me along the way.

I would also like to give a huge shoutout to ERIEC’s Mentorship Facilitator, Zoila García, who gave me really valuable tips for acing the interviews. Sometimes a few words can make a big difference. ERIEC’s team has made a big difference in my life as I have embarked on this new chapter of my life in Canada.

I am really grateful to the ERIEC team for their kind support and guidance! 😊”
