Latest news from ERIEC

It has been a busy few months for the ERIEC Team:

Last Sunday October 30th, 2016, ERIEC participated at the Career Focus Event hosted by the Ismaili Community at the Edmonton Headquarters Jamat Khana and Council for Edmonton Office. This was a very well organized event that included a host of welcoming volunteers and very tasty lunch! There were over 70 participants, mostly unemployed professional immigrants as well as people who were looking for a better employment opportunities. They all had a chance to visit the variety of booths that included representatives from ERIEC, EMCN, Bredin Centre for Learning, NorQuest College and City of Edmonton. The presentations, the keynote speaker and the panel discussion were very informative and inspirational! Thank you Hussein Alibhai for inviting us to this great event!

Early last Monday morning October 31st our Executive Director Doug Piquette was invited to sit on a panel to talk about Syrian refugee supports, opportunities and resources for employers who might be interested in hiring these newcomers. Click on the picture for the full interview.

On Wednesday November 2nd ERIEC hosted once again their annual Business Leaders Corporate Breakfast at the Alberta Art Gallery.  Over 50 employers participated in this great learning and networking event. The keynote speaker Todd Odgers, NorQuest College provided an excellent presentation on our unconscious biases in the workplace and how to identify and deal with wrong assumptions and stereotyping.

In the meantime – we continue to deliver awards to our Star Mentors and Partners who were not able to attend our gala 2016 ERIEC Awards and Recognition event earlier in October. These awards are a small gesture of thanks to all the support and collaboration we receive from various stakeholders.

Here is Executive Director, Doug Piquette, presenting the ERIEC Community Partnership award to Frankline Agbor, Executive Producer of Diversity Magazine for their ongoing support of ERIEC’s mentorship and networking programs in Edmonton.
