3 Programs for Internationally Trained Professionals

We are pleased to introduce three new programs: ASCEND, FAST, and SPRINT provided by Action for Healthy Communities (A4HC) in collaboration with the Immigrant Employment Council of BC (IECBC).

ASCEND is an interactive online employment readiness program developed in partnership with Canadian employers that builds soft skill awareness and confidence in newcomers to Canada.

This is available for free for internationally educated professionals who have immigrated to Canada with Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee status.

Program version and length: (online + workshops weekly facilitator lead workshops). Modules take about 20 hours for a client to complete. This is entirely self-paced and typically provides seven weeks of access for clients to complete the 20 hours of the program.

Requirements: advanced English language skills (CLB 6+); Previous work experience.

Deadline for applications: April 20th. ASCEND will start right after Eid at the beginning of May.

FAST (Facilitating Access to Skilled Talent) is a free, self-paced, online career prep and competency assessment program designed for individuals in Accounting, Biotech & Life Sciences, Culinary Arts, IT and Data Services, and Skilled Trades. Please watch this 3-min FAST video to learn more about what FAST can offer.

Who is eligible for FAST: CLB 6+ permanent residents and refugee claimants and also worked at least two years of experience in their field.

In addition, FAST is available now also for pre-arrival permanent residents for professionals in 68 different occupations in Skilled Trades, Biotech, and IT. This program is unique because:

  • it provides insights into occupational standards and requirements to work in Canada,
  • helps individuals to identify information gaps in skills and competencies, the training required, and
  • it provides a comprehensive assessment of the knowledge, skills, and abilities (competence) and how they compare to Canadian standards.

SPRINT (Skills Passport for Newcomers in Tech) is a national project funded by the Government of Canada's Foreign Credential Recognition program to accelerate the labor market integration of skilled immigrants in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or Biotechnology and Life Sciences. Through SPRINT, participants gain free access to a full suite of our project partners' services, such as credential evaluation, industry designations, e-mentoring support, and the FAST competency assessment program.
