When I arrived in Canada, I brought with me international experience in Operations Management, including work with industrial companies and consulting projects. However, like many internationally educated professionals, I quickly realized that translating that experience into the Canadian job market required new strategies and a clearer understanding of how the system works.
In May 2025, I connected with ERIEC and later joined the Career Mentorship Program, where I was matched with my mentor, Dr. Amuzat. His guidance played a key role in helping me refine my professional direction in Canada and develop a clear, strategic plan aligned with my long-term career goals.
Through this mentorship experience, I strengthened my professional profile, learned how to effectively position my international experience, and gained valuable insights into the Canadian workplace. The workshops and ongoing conversations helped me better understand professional expectations, communication styles, and industry practices—significantly boosting my confidence.
Today, I am working in Supply Chain and Operations Management within an industrial organization that operates three manufacturing sites across Canada. This milestone reflects not only my persistence but also the impact of the support and guidance I received along the way. Looking ahead, I am pursuing further professional certifications in Supply Chain while continuing to grow my expertise in operations management.
My experience with ERIEC has shown me how powerful mentorship, guidance, and community support can be for newcomers building their careers in Canada. With the right support, the experience we bring from around the world can truly become a strength in the Canadian workforce.
