It took me 10 months to realize that the reason I was not getting any response for a professional job was that I was not targeting the advertised job.

But how do I target the advertised job?

Most job postings have key words in it and most organisations use software which scans the resumes for keywords specified in job postings.

The more keywords you have from the job posting in your resume, the more likely it is for the software to pick up your resume from a pool of hundreds or thousands of resumes submitted for a particular job.

The following process model is a high-level view of how resumes get to the hiring manager, for a particular job (according to my understanding).
